All of us are 90% bacteria.
Yes. Really. On a cellular level we are 90% bacteria and 10% human.
Various vital functions of life happen solely because of the bacterial flora and fauna on us and inside us. Each one of us are really metropolis, teeming with microscopic organisms. No wonder the ancients called a human “Purusha” – literally translated, one who governs a city.
These bacteria can rule us, or we can choose to rule over them.
There are the good-for-us bacteria who create harmony and stability in our systems. And then there are the others with a twisted sense of humour – the ones who make us sick, the ones who make a mess of our systems.
We inherit our genome from our respective family trees, but which parts of it will turn on or off is decided by those tiny critters in our gut. The bacteria in you can give you the gift of vibrant health or plague you with aches, pains and illnesses.
The quality of life we enjoy is mostly decided by the bacteria in our gut.
